Snail Inkwell

Found by Jerry Davis in the 1960’s when a sewer pipe was being dug to service the new Gents toilet at the Fox and Goose Pub. Jerry commented that the inkwell must be from the original Fox and Goose Pub which was burnt down. It has faint patination which might be remnants of silver plating. It is made up of about 20 pieces including screws and pins. It is moulded with some stamping.

Novelty inkwells and a variety of designs were popular from the end of the 18th century and throughout the 19th century. The inkwell is in private ownership
